“Knit One, Pearl Gown…Hey, Everyone We’re Going to Funtown!”
Trip Day
Wednesdays have always been a Trip Day at Matoaka. The first trip day of the First Session has historically been our trip to Funtown. As you can imagine, our campers weren’t expecting a trip to an amusement park this summer. That’s why we rented the entire park out exclusively for our girls! It goes without saying, but a great time was had by all. When we asked the campers to rate the trip on a 1 to 10 scale, they rated it 100!
July 4th Carnival
Our campers celebrated Independence Day with a parade led by the oldest campers, more oversized inflatables than any previous year, dunk tanks, and food galore. We ended the night with a fireworks show over East Pond that left our campers and staff shouting a cheer to thank the fireworks crew for one of the best shows of their lives!
Give Back Tuesdays
Each week our camp community has an opportunity to help others who are less fortunate. We partner with World of Change, an organization that puts pocket change to good use, and Wildflower, an organization that helps kids rediscover life after loss. Our campers earn points every Tuesday at activities.
At the end of the summer, we tally the points and send a pledge card home with the number of points your daughter and her bunk earned. We ask for a donation for her hard work. Camp matches the total amount of donations made by our camp families. Every summer we raise thousands of dollars for these two charities with your daughter’s hard work and your help!
Also, the winning bunk from each division receives a unique, one-of-a-kind designed Matoaka t-shirt. And the camper who earns the most points overall will receive a replica of one plaque in the Rec Hall.
Matoaka Meals
On Wednesday we announced that we are moving our meals indoors. Part of the Matoaka experience is cheering in the Dining Hall and staring up at the rafters in awe of all the College League plaques. Over 250 plaques grace the ceiling. As you can imagine, there is a story to tell with each plaque, and we are thrilled the girls are able to return indoors where they can cheer and sing songs together under one roof.
College League
This week we had the 2020 Greek Games and 2021 Apache Relays, as well as Tuesday and Thursday games. The girls have enjoyed the games and meets all week. They love getting dressed up in their costumes and being spirited. Win or lose, our focus is on participation and comradery.
Community
In just two weeks our campers have achieved so much, and we can’t wait for the next day, every day. We know many parents are tagging photos of their daughter saying, “living her best life”. We are so proud of your girls for sharing, growing, learning, and living each day with us at One Great Place!
