We Are Family!

Posted June 17, 2012 • Share: Camp is a place where children can learn the social skills that are an integral part of growing up. Over the course of their summer most of the campers have the opportunity to travel to local boys’ camps for dances and “play dates”…don’t worry, the dances don’t start until the 6th grade! In order to familiarize our staff with the staff members, we setup get-togethers with both Manitou and Caribou. Last night, we were graciously welcomed by the fantastic staff at Camp Caribou. We feasted on a fantastic spread of appetizers, chicken Caesar salad, and yummy deserts. After the meal, we shared some of our own camp traditions. We demonstrated our “Party” and “Stomp and Grind” cheers, and the Caribou boys led us in one of their favorite cheers as well. It was a fun evening, and we were able to eat outside under the trees on their gorgeous camp grounds. Shortly after, we all boarded the buses and headed to the fantastic TJ’s Pool Hall in. The counselors and staff from both camps mingled and got to know one another, which will definitely prove useful later on down the summer when our campers mingle. It’s an incredible feeling when the elements of friendship extend beyond the long dirt road, and we’re able to welcome other camps and local businesses into our extended Matoaka family! A week from today the campers will arrive, so our family will be complete!
