Visiting Day!By far the most exciting day of a Camp Matoaka summer is the day we open our gates to our extended family, and invite them on-camp to share the Matoaka Magic. Visiting Day was this past Sunday, and we welcomed the parents, siblings and extended family of our beloved campers to spend the day with us and experience what camp is all about. This year, we tried something a little different. Each camper followed their normal schedules, bringing their families to two camp activities. Counselors taught the girls new skills, while their parents and siblings got to either watch, or join in! Dads were playing tennis with their daughters. Mothers and daughters did Yoga together. Little brothers were trying their hand at archery. It was a beautiful day for families to bond. Lunch was a massive feast! We had all the standard cookout foods such as hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, watermelon, and several different salads. For dessert we had a buffet of cookies, cakes, whoopie pies and our famous “sports bars”. While we ate, the waterski department showed off their skills on the lake. Girls carried flags, did tricks, and even completed a successful human pyramid! Parents and family were stunned at how talented these girls were. That feeling was prevalent all across camp. There were various shows and skill demonstrations throughout the day. Our horseback riding department did a choreographed Drill Team exercise. Our dance and gymnastics departments both did performances. Our Cheerleading Team put on a fantastic high-flying number that people are still raving about, two days later! Our theater and music department also performed excerpts from our plays and did a small music recital. Overall, this day just proved how talented our staff and campers really are!
Overall, this was by far the most exciting and successful Visiting Day that Camp Matoaka has ever seen! One can only imagine what next year will bring!
