USTA and ClimbingYesterday was a busy day at Camp Matoaka! We hosted a USTA Tournament where 43 of our campers faced off against USTA registered players from Camp Vega, and others from the community. There were a total of 72 entrants who competed in four different age divisions in both singles and double matches. All of our courts were utilized and games played from morning to evening and used all nine of our courts. Our tennis staff did a fantastic job coordinating and overseeing the event. We will have a formal trophy presentation tomorrow at lunch for all the winners.
We also had campers participate in the 16th Annual Climbing Challenge at Camp Laurel. Ten different camps were represented and both boys and girls competed. They faced a variety of rock walls with a wide range of difficulty levels. Our girls had a fantastic showing, with one girl placing 3rd overall in the Under 13 competition. Back at camp, it was a picture perfect summer day with a lot of sunshine. We followed our normal activity schedule and everyone had a great time. During First General Rec periods, Bunk 14 met with their camp “little sisters” and made bracelets together. For dinner that evening we celebrated with our traditional Friday Night meal of baked chicken, rice and challah bread. Then we all gathered in the Council Ring to reflect on our week. Bunk 14B led the Friday Night Services and they discussed the concept of “Change”. How does camp change a camper for the better? What changes have they seen in themselves just for coming here? It was beautifully done, and the perfect way to end “Just Another Day at Camp Matoaka”.
