Second Session Sails!

Posted August 3, 2013 • Share: Wow, second session is FLYING by! We are in full-swing! There’s so much happening everyday at Camp Matoaka! The campers are making the most of every precious moment of Matoaka Magic they have left. On Wednesday, most of the camp travelled to Funtown Splashtown in Saco, Maine. This small amusement park is the perfect day trip for our girls. They love the roller coasters, games, food, waterslides and rides. The whole park was flooded with pink and purple Matoaka shirts and smiling campers! The weather was picture perfect and everyone had an incredible time! Some campers chose to travel to Camp Vega for a dance team competition rather than go to the park. It was a fun event with girls performing their routines in a showdown against Vega. We’ll have a full recap of the competition on our Bunk 1 page soon! We also had some campers choose to stay back from Funtown and spend the whole day on camp! Arts and Crafts, Tennis, Waterski and Landsports were all open for the 50 girls that wanted to use that time to get extra time in these activities! So many girls reached goals that they’d set for themselves earlier in the summer! It was a huge success! Then on Thursday, it was a normal day of scheduled activities, but there was just something special about it. So many campers decided to try certain activities for the very first time, or made progress in activities that astonished everyone! Several girls caught the pamper pole for the first time in Ropes, several girls caught fish for the very first time, and several girls managed to complete the entire Cheerleading progress chart! Our staff is always impressed by the achievements of our campers, but the last few days have been especially fantastic. Thursday morning was a special day for our horseback riding department. For the first time, they organized a trail ride to an area of our property that’s not often visited. This scenic area across the cove serves as a fantastic new addition to camp for special events. The girls rode the horses over to this area for a special breakfast before returning to camp. Everyone involved raved that it was an incredible trip worth repeating! Thursday was also a huge day here on camp because we hosted another USTA Tennis Tournament! It was an all-day event utilizing all of our courts and involving campers of all ages. We’ll have a full results list posted on Bunk1 very soon! And all of this is just a small part of all the fun we’ve been having, we have also been having practices for our upcoming Matoaka Island Swim and the Matoaka Cove swim! The cove swim was supposed to be held this morning, but it was rained out, and will be rescheduled.  We are right in the middle of our annual camper/counselor tennis tournament, and our Dodgeball tournament starts soon as well! Meanwhile, campers are still biking, climbing, and running to raise money for Camp Champions. And College League is in full swing!
Every day at Camp Matoaka is full of energy, excitement and fun! This past week is the perfect example of all that we offer and what our incredible campers can accomplish with a summer at One Great Place!
