Sea Dogs Round Two!
We had so much fun with the seniors at the Portland Sea Dogs game on Tuesday, we just had to do it again, but this time with the Inters! All of our 11 and 12 year old campers were treated to an afternoon baseball game in Portland yesterday. They cheered on the home team proudly and had a blast! The Sea Dogs were victorious, shutting out the Akron Aeros 3-0.
Meanwhile, back at camp, the Juniors and Seniors carried on with their normal scheduled activities. The weather was perfect, so the squeals and smiles carried across camp as everyone sailed, biked, skied, climbed, and played.
At dinner, Bunk 15 entertained us with a rousing “Fruit Salad” activity. The Queens came to the dining hall dressed as their favorite fruits, and when a whistle was blown, they’d switch places with other “fruits”. Every table gets jumbled, much like an actual fruit salad! It’s a fun tradition that has continued once per summer for many years.
Our evening activity was a fun round of College League games. The junior teams competed in soccer and kickball, the inters in basketball and newcomb, and the seniors in Matoaka ball and water polo. The energy and spirit that College League generates is unmatched. The College League season is winding down, and each team is fighting for whatever victories they can.
The competitive spirit carried on after the games were done, as many campers and counselors gathered in the dance studio to watch a recording of the Women’s Olympic Gymnastics Team Finals from earlier this week. Team USA managed to capture the gold medal for the first time since 1996. We had over 100 campers watching the events, and they were very vocal in cheering on the US team. Jordyn Weiber and Aly Raisman were the clear favorites. When they clinched the gold, everyone watching in the dance studio stood while the National Anthem played and it’s a moment these campers will remember for years to come.
