Funtown & Annie!“When I’m stuck with a day that’s gray and lonely, I just stick out my chin, and grin, and saaaaay…” This classic line from the musical “Annie” is recognizable and relatable to basically everyone across the world. However, at Camp Matoaka, when we’re faced with a day that’s gray, it’s FAR from lonely! Yesterday, although we were faced with some pretty grey weather, we had an incredible time at Funtown Splashtown during the day and we came back to enjoy our girls’ fantastic production of “Annie!” Our annual trip to the amusement park Funtown Splashtown USA in Saco, Maine is always a highlight of the summer to everyone. Yesterday the entire camp, (minus our Theater campers) boarded coach buses and headed towards Saco. The amusement park offers a wide range of rides from water slides, to tea cups, to a pirate ship, and even a giant wooden roller coaster! The campers love eating pizza, shopping for candy and enjoying the rides. The grey and misty weather was actually a huge blessing because our kids stayed cool and the lines were shorter than usual! When we got back to camp, we enjoyed a fantastic dinner of grilled cheese and tomato soup (a camper favorite! Yum!) and got ready for the play.
The musical production by our theater campers and staff was definitely one of the best the PAC has ever seen. The sets were stunning. The costumes were perfect. And the vocals were top-notch! This show will earn better reviews than the current Broadway production of the same show! Broadway, watch out!
