Fifteen Minutes of Fame
They say that everyone achieves “Fifteen Minutes of Fame”. Here at Camp Matoaka, campers get to have that feeling for much longer, it’s just part of the Matoaka Magic.
We’ve had a busy weekend with much excitement here at camp. Saturday was a busy day of normally scheduled activities. So much was accomplished! Saturday morning we had a bus-full of campers and counselors compete in the Belgrade Lakes 5K run. We even brought our Cheerleading department to support them as they crossed the finish line. Back at camp, one fifteen year old had a superstar moment when sh catch the Pamper Pole on her very FIRST trip to Ropes EVER!
The cast of our next musical, “Aladdin” was announced and rehearsals began for the 40+ campers who will shine bright on our PAC stage in just over a week. They’ll get a small taste of the Broadway fame as they work together on a professional stage with theatrical lighting and live musc.
Campers felt famous on Sunday morning when they were professionally photographed, both individually, and by bunk, for a keepsake photo to always remember Summer 2014.
Just after that we held the annual College League Apache Relay. Each girl had an opportunity to shine and compete hard for her team in this camp-wide race.
Sunday night’s Campfire theme was “Red Carpet”. Each girl who won an activity award was ushered to the podium by a team of 15 year old campers acting as security guards. This Hollywood inspired night gave every camper a chance to feel like a star.
At Camp Matoaka we hope each camper returns home at the end of the summer with a sense of pride and accomplishment as well as a confidence that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. Two months of Matoaka Magic is a much more powerful and rewarding feeling than fifteen minutes of fame.
