College League Has Broken!

Posted June 27, 2012 • Share: Despite another day of rain, nothing could dampen the spirits of our Matoaka campers yesterday! We had hoped to start following our regular schedules, but Mother Nature had something different in mind!

After breakfast, the campers divided up into their respective age groups for some super fun activities. The 8s and 9s got to play “Sharks and Minnows” in the gymnasium using our giant parachute! The 10s and 11s learned how to Zumba in the Rec Hall, while the 13s-15s got to start sketching and painting their bunk plaques. These plaques will be displayed in their cabins for the future generations of Matoaka to enjoy. It’s each bunk’s way of leaving their mark on One Great Place.

The afternoon was just as busy, with a big/little sister sing-along, more plaque painting, an interactive game of “Deal or No Deal”, and the seniors traveled off camp to go bowling! Every camper was busy and every camper was having a blast!

As if the day couldn’t get any better, following dinner the entire camp gathered in the Rec Hall for an 80s themed “dance party!” We hired a professional DJ to play for us, and the girls danced the night away to the sounds of Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, and more! It was adorable to see everyone singing along, especially to songs that were first recorded before they were born!

And then, at the peak of all the fun and excitement, campers noticed a stirring upstairs from our brand new conference room windows. Colored spotlights were illuminated and displayed the unmistakable silhouettes of our four College League Captains! College League had broken!

The Captains drew the names of their advisors and co-captains, and then the teams were announced!
