Tennis at Camp Matoaka offers girls the opportunity to learn the skills involved in the game, as well as the chance to play in competitive situations. Matoaka has nine outdoor tennis courts, four lit for night-time play, extra rackets available for campers who don’t have one, and a designated hut to store all of the equipment every day. Our staff consists of at least one USPTA certified pro and six other full-time instructors. Beginners are given a solid foundation in basic skills, and more advanced players are provided a chance to test their skills against other players of similar capabilities. Beginners are taught basic forehand and backhand, and more advanced players are taught “skilled” shots such as volleying, lobs, overheads, approach shots, serves, and various spin shots. Campers enjoy taking part in tennis competitions for both intra-camp tournaments and competitions against other camps. The annual Matoaka Invitational includes five camps, and there are two inter-camp tournaments each summer. The Camper-Counselor Tournament and the Camper-Camper Tournament are always a hit!
